Make descriptions EASY in Dungeons and Dragons
I’ll definitely be getting the players handbook on day 1. I’m not so sure about the other 2 yet. I don’t really reference the dm guide much, and I’m so used to home brewing my monster stats anyway. But, the new core rules seem like a big upgrade.
I won't be buying these books. Even if there are significant changes, if I'm interested in any D&D, I'll stick to 2014 5E. And there are other systems I prefer.
Makes sense! I like a lot of the changes they're making, but I cannot imagine spending anything on these new ones. For the price of the 3 new core rule books ordered online, I could get the Pathfinder 2E core rules, the DC 20 core book via Kickstarter, and the GM's guide for Dragonbane.
Second picking DM style ques is great - example:”how would you individually like to set up camp for the night”
Wont be buying. I only got into dnd a bit over a year ago and my group has only recently moved onto 5e from Adnd. And I have already spent thousands of dollars on the stuff already. If it ain't broke don't fix it
I totally get that. People aren't exactly crying out for an overhaul - at most, I imagine a lot of people will just cherry pick their favorite rules from the new books and leave it at that.
I'm buying the books.
That's interesting to hear! What in particular is selling them to you?
My table will probably stay with 5e. We've adjusted and homebrewed so much that it's basically a new system. We might try Pathfinder 2e or DC20, but I am done trusting WotC, both in design and integrity.
Makes sense! I think a lot of people will lift a few rules from the new system and just roll them into 5E, without splurging on all new books.
If it hadn't been for the OGL scandal and WotC/Hasbro laying off all those people around Christmas, I'd probably be more excited. But even without all that, I'm not a fan of some of the design choices, specifically the shoving of Heroic Inspiration into class features (I always disliked the original Inspiration and would have rather they just got rid of it and try something more interesting). Honestly I'm more interested in DC20 and Tales of the Valiant at this point. But if people like it, more power to them. Edit: Also the removal of interesting capstones in favour of Epic Boon's is a point of disinterest to me. Most of the Weapon Mastery's still seem underwhelming. And WotC getting their hands caught in the AI Art trap more than once.
DC 20 looks far more interesting than 5.5 D&D, to be honest. While I like a lot of the changes here, I'd much rather support something genuinely new and exciting, rather than a retread.
I won't be buying the new books. I'm fairly entrenched in the OSR scene now and also playing other genres. They look amazing, but like you there's a lot of stuff competing for my ducats.
We only have so many ducats to go round!
I have no interest in financially supporting WOTC anymore, but a lot of the changes seem interesting enough that I might convert my campaign if the rules are easy enough to find online.
Exactly, all the core info will be up online before long, along with free PDF versions if you look in the right places.
Based on your content I had to start your campaign 🔥🔥
Most likely going to be switching to DC20 anyway.
Yeah, I know it's been said a lot, but I feel like DC 20 is the real 6E.
@@TalesArcane For real
Interesting!
I have specific dragons in my campaign that were granted celestial status (meaning they live much longer ) and are considered pillars that balance the realm, unfortunately balance means metallic AND chromatics were granted this status and the power each has in the world depends on what they did with there status (campaign will be running to 20 if not higher)
from what I've seen there is nothing in the new phb that interests me. However I might get the new DMG. Depends on whats actually in it compared to the old one
I'm curious to see how many new monsters show up in the MM as well, but tbh, I ain't splashing the cash on any of them, I don't think 😅
Won't be buying them. My group is quickly moving away from D&D to other systems.
Same! I'll be using a lot of the rules, but I'd much rather spend the cash on other systems.
@@TalesArcane one I'm really excited to play is called Fabula Ultima. It's a TTJRPG. It tries to model after JRPGs like Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest.
@@Andrew.DowningI'll look it up, thank you!
First
Took the dash action!
Damn, video was only a minute old. Respect
In my homebrew campaign I have done this to a certain extent and it gives me the needed flexibility as a new DM (kinda got a main villain at the forefront with Another main villain in the background who can potentially be an alley at points but has his own agenda) now the world and story will go ahead how based on who the gravitate towards
My current campaign features the escaping villain, the returning dead and the puppet master. The puppet master is a vampire who rules a city through fear. The returning dead started out as an eldritch knight/warlock who made a pact with the vampire. Unfortunately, the fine print of the pact didn't have an end date. The first time the players met the warlock, he escaped at the last moment (I handled it poorly and would redo that if I could). The second time they met him, they killed him. The puppet master brought him back to life to serve again. One of the players (who had a back story connected to this individual when he lived in the vampire-ruled city) dreamed of the warlock being forced back to life to continue serving. Tonight, they will meet him for the third time, and hopefully kill him. Before they do, he will specifically recognise the player character and call to him. I plan for him to come back on more time after this, where he becomes a tragic figure who begs to be released from his service before being forcibly controlled by the puppet master... which is actually like a form of the Possessed. Whoops! That's awesome and unintentional. My ultimate hope is for a showdown between the players, the puppet master and the warlock where the warlock goes full Darth Vader and helps the party kill the puppet master, knowing that he will also die. I hope it plays out that way!
Check out The Soloist, it’s a Substack with news, reviews, and tips about solo and GM-less RPGs.
Great video. Such a simple concept and it makes world building easier!
Mclovin!
Also I feel like "A Monster, a God, and a King" could be the name of a campaign or at least, one of the arc within the campaign.
Reminds me of the song “Soldier, Poet, King”
All my rolls are done out in the open. I just prefer it that way
This is so awesome
I guess I should simulate a year or so of the world somehow with some dice rolls and see what's alive and what's dead.
I don't fudge any rolls, but 5e has a built in mechanic for "fudging rolls", legendary resistance, for your second issue Edit: I also agree on your first and main point, it is okay if your still learning. I make almost all rolls openly and it drives the tension up greatly. Great video
I honestly feel like most proficiencies should come from the player's background.
there are so many of these kickstarters now, and most of them already struggle to fund. the market is oversaturated.
Another amazing video my man!
Tales Arcane, I’ve just let this short play on repeat for a few minutes while I worked. Your voice is perfect for working! Thank you! 😂❤
I follow many DND/TTRPG content creators, you're by far the most insightful, or at least in my opinion. From every video you make I have at the very least one takeaway. Soon I'll be running my first One Shot for which I followed your one shot video recommendations... It will be players on the trail of a cockatrice. Thank you ! :) best Patreon subscription ever.
I think in a world where dragons are a real threat, the main god wouldn’t be a dragon-slayer, but the dragons themselves, to which sacrifices are made in exchange for protection
Man it's cool to see this second wave of dnd content makers. You're top notch man. Love the videos, more in the direction of the kindv content I appreciate in regards to the hobby. Thank you sir.
I usually don't comment, but I've been watching your channel for a while. So let me just express my gratitude for all of the awesome content you put out. 👌
I always take something away from this guy , thanks for the great content
GREAT VIDEO!!❤
Shadowdark has something similar with a simplified background list. This is more developed and definitely helpful.😊
My players asked me to set up a system for them to craft with monster parts and other ingredients, so I did a bunch of research, including watching your videos on crafting, only for them to decide they’d rather not when they got back to base - I was beyond devastated - I’ve got it in my back pocket if they change their mind - it’s also linked to the current arc, so I guess if they don’t pursue it, there may be in game complications - such is the life of a DM 😅
Ahhhh that's rough, mate! It can be quite frustrating feeling that you put your heart into something that doesn't then get put to use - but you certainly didn't waste your time! You've got that system in your back pocket, as you say, and one day the right player will come along for it. In my games only one or two players ever get really into crafting, but for them, it adds so much to the roleplay and to their sense of progression. When that player shows up you'll be ready 💪
@@TalesArcane many thanks 🙏🏿
awesome video!
The amateur DM's players: "Oh, yeah, that NPC who got in our way earlier was wearing this nobleman's pin on his tunic. That must mean he's working for him." The master DM's players: "Oh no, I just realized . . . the guy who sold us those healing potions, where only half of them were real? He goes to the Temple of Snorgh'urkh. This noble guy we suspect just came out of a meeting with the head priest of Snorgh'urkh! Oh, crap, what did we talk about in front of that potion maker? If he told the priest, and then the priest told our villain . . . Guys! That's why those assassins came after us! _He knows who we are!_"
Any plans to put this idea on a PDF for Patreon? Great little supplement that I could refer to later when I’m a little further along building my homebrew world.
That's an interesting idea! I hadn't planned to, but now you mention it, I might do a world building guide PDF soon. Thank you!
Love your content! Keep it up!!!
I spent quite a while writing the lores and history of my world, but it seems like my players are less interested in the history part. Do you think I should simplify it? Thank you 🙏🏻
Insert your players backstories into the lore and they will get more interested as story now about them again. Ruined city of major maze building culture is now last place PCs missing sibling/mentor/parent/teddy bear was seen, and they will be all over it. A rival or nemesis escapes after stealing a book of obscure lore about a wizards tower an its bizarre warding magic? Where is the nearest library with a copy?
@@andrewburgess9578 I tried
@@fammnak852 sorry to hear that; normally making the lore a small detail of character story and expanding as interest grows is good. Have you tried a scattergun approach of lots of lore items and seeing which spark most interest to develop? Or making knowledge/understanding of lore a key to solving/simplifying current problems ... this tombs culture was famous for mastering lightning magic - all the traps will be that damage type if you stock up on resistance potions etc.
Effect and reflect … nice
Excellent 👍
Ooooooh daaaaamn!!!
You can't force your PCs care about your lore, but you can make your NPCs care about your lore and have their motivations be based on lore (political, religious, etc)
That's very well put! My players usually care about the NPCs a lot more than they care about the lore, making the NPCs a perfect bridge between them and the world.
Great ideas! More!
I'm on it! 💪
You gotta stop making such good tips. I'm beginning to feel bad that the patreon doesn't cost me more, not to mention free on youtube ;-;
